Volunteer Service Highlights
Governance and Organization Remodeling:
Served as Chair of the Amici
Chamber Ensemble after having proposed a successful restructuring.
Chair of Trinity Home
Hospice (2-year term) and facilitator of Strategic Planning workshops.
As Past Chair of the
Traffic Injury Research Foundation, (TIRF) co-chaired a special task
force to implement a major social marketing plan designed to capitalize on
the Foundation's world-class abilities (1998).
Served on TIRF’s first
Strategic Planning Committee which brought about mandate and goal
realignment (1996); repeated the process in 2000.
As Chair of the
Canadian Society of Association Executives, led the team which gained
consensus and successfully implemented the Carver governance model; the
Board was reduced from 26 to 13 members to attract the best leaders
(1992).
Fund Raising and Marketing Charitable Organizations:
As a member of the
inaugural Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Association Research
and Education, chaired its first Fund Raising Committee; 1994 campaign
exceeded targets by 30%.
Chaired the Traffic
Injury Research Foundation's Fund Raising Committee (1995) as well as a
Special Task Force on Marketing (1993) achieving goal to stabilize our
non-grant generated funding.
Served as a member of the
American Society of Association Executives Foundation Fund Raising
Committee (1993) and continue on a special fund-raising task force,
actively soliciting donations annually (1996-98).
Chaired the 10th
Anniversary Celebration Event organizing Committee as well as the new
Public Relations Committee for the Trinity Home Hospice mandated to
increase awareness of services and to enhance community support (1998).
Involved in
funding raising efforts for the Amici Chamber Ensemble, the Canadian
Guide Dogs for the Blind and the
Canadian Journalism Foundation and as a friend of the Parkdale Chapter
of Rotary International.
Front-Line Volunteer Experience/Group
Diversity:
Served as a fully trained,
active care team volunteer with Trinity Home Hospice for 10 years providing home care to terminally ill clients.
Completed a nine-week
course in 1987 to work with a manic depressive woman; have been a
Canadian Mental Health Association Big Sister to a juvenile unwed
mother, two mentally- challenged women ; continue to support a
learning-disabled woman since 1981.
Was a member of the
"UP with People” Montreal cast focusing on elderly support in the late
sixties; worked with mentally-challenged institutionalized youth and in
half-way houses for individuals released from prisons and mental
institutions through Project Christopher (1966-69). Was a Girl
Guide Lieutenant and President of my Holy Names High School
Students’ Council.
Taught a grade 8 class on
the “Economics of Education” through Junior Achievement in
partnership with the Toronto Board of Trade (2000).
Awards/Recognition:
Awarded on Honoured Life
Membership by the Canadian Society of Association Executives (1999).
Awarded a Fellowship in
the American Society of Association Executives – only Canadian to ever be
awarded (1991) and served as Chair of the ASAE Fellows in 1999.
Recognized by the City
of Toronto for Outstanding Volunteer Service (2000).
